Who Are We?

AFM Legislative Action Fund

The Legislative Action Fund (formerly TEMPO) is a political action committee (PAC) that supports theAFM's friends in Congress through political contributions. The support is made possible by voluntary donations to the fund from AFM members. Contributions cannot be taken from AFM dues paid into the general treasury.

Much of the AFM's legislative work consists of presenting reasoned arguments to relevant Congressional committees, educating legislators, and arranging for them to hear the views of their musician constituents. Contributions from the Legislative Action Fund are made in support of legislators, irrespective of party affiliation, who have championed our causes or who we believe will support our issues if elected. Some issues currently before Congress that are important to AFM members are: gaining a performance right, whereby AM/FM radio will pay royalties to artists; requiring airlines to allow musical instruments to be carried onboard; and passing quality, affordable healthcare legislation.

As is the annual custom, Local 6 is asking its members to contribute to the work of the Legislative Action Fund by adding at least $5 to their dues payments. However, voluntary contributions in any amount will be gratefully accepted.

Thank you for supporting the AFM Legislative Action Fund.

Please note that contributions to the AFM Legislative Action Fund are not deductible as charitable contributions for income tax purposes.
