MICHELE MUNRO
Bossa Nova, Brazilian Jazz, Jazz Standards

Michele has a Bachelor's degree in Music (Jazz Studies) from Sonoma State University, and is working on her second cd which includes original material.
As the vocalist and leader of Banda da Lua, she has played many Bay Area events and festivals, including the San Jose Jazz Festival, the Cotati Jazz Festival, Sonoma Salute to the Arts, the Sonoma County Harvest Fair, and the Napa Valley Mustard Festival, as well as local jazz venues.
As a young musician, Michele Munro was influenced by be-bop and fascinated by 20th century avant-guard composers. She studied Jazz piano with Matt Michaels and voice with Ray Taylor in Detroit, Michigan and moved to western Canada, where she sang with the Pacific Rim big band. But her passion was always with the music of Brazil and the way it blended with American Jazz, which has become a genre of its own.
Possessing a sultry voice, perfect with the elegant Bossa Nova, Michele sings many songs in Portuguese to interpret the rhythms of Rio. A clever lyricist, she writes songs with a contemporary twist.
Her repertoire consists of music from a variety of Brazilian composers ,some of her favorites being Milton Nascimento, Edo Lobo, Dori Caymmi, Ivan Lins and, of course, Tom Jobim. She also has a extensive book of jazz standards, pop and original tunes.
